A college, without being a college
What if engineering students didn’t study in a classroom, but inside a tech company, sitting next to engineers shipping work for real clients?
That’s not a hypothetical. 14 students at UnsaidTalks School Of Technology are doing exactly this right now.
They’re pursuing the 4-year IIT Madras BS degree online, from our office. And they spend 20–30% of their time learning directly from our tech team and industry mentors.
We don’t treat them like college students. We treat them like fresher interns:
- A personalised roadmap for each student, based on where they are today
- Their own Kanban board
- Daily standups with Teaching Assistants (for the degree) and Tech Mentors (for industry skills)
- When they’re ready, they get deployed as interns on live client projects
Why we are building it this way?
Because Content is a solved problem today. With AI, anyone can learn anything. What’s still hard is knowing what to learn, how much, and how to learn it. And some skills AI can’t teach on its own: explaining your thinking, taking feedback, working in a team. You learn those by doing them, around people who do the work every day.
Our bigger bet is a distributed college, without being a college. Engineering students train like working engineers from year one, so by graduation they don’t walk out as “freshers.” They walk out operating like SDE-IIs.
We’re early and still learning. If you’re curious about the model, or want to contribute as a mentor, reviewer, or project partner, my DMs are open.
